The recent improvement to the JohnCow.com website has it’s good and bad points. The page is nice, visually the banner is pleasing, but on the left and right hand side below the banner there is too much going on, you have ads, pictures, recent readers from mybloglog…it is just a very busy splashpage, almost busy enough for me to navigate away from the page.
The page also has some good points, the navigation is very clear on top of the page in a horizontal line up (this is an absolute must for any good blog, as they tend to get very hectic from time to time). One thing which really impressed me was the new orange dropdown menus, a great way to keep visitors on the same page, not needing them to navigate away from the page. That is definitely two thumbs up material!
The JohnCow.com homepage has not really changed much except for making it more visually pleasing to the eye. Although a blog change can be a good thing, it must be thought out, planned and made BETTER.
Do not, I repeat do not go out and change your blog design just becuase JohnCow or JohnChow did it, think about your design before you leap into it. Make a new design for the right reasons. Here are my following tips

I love the new JohnCow design. I didn’t think this site would survive as long as it did. I’m glad to see they are still at it.
