Blog Monetization: Kontera Content Link, Should you use it?
Kontera Content Link is a great idea for the bloggers out there, the concept seems pretty good. At the end of the day we must ask ourselves, does it make money for bloggers? The answer is not really, Although many services which have come out have flourished (Text Link Ads, ReviewMe, PayPerPost etc…) Kontera did not really get a lot of approval with many bloggers out there…why?
Maybe it is the fact that they require at least 500,000 pageviews for it to supposedly work effectively. That being said it has made money for two blogs which I have read, John Chow (most probably through referrals and not the actual sponsored links) and Courtney Tuttle (only accounting for 31% of the income). Court seems to like the idea of Kontera and it has apparently been a good source of income…so, should all bloggers use it? No.
Kontera will probably work best if you have a very focussed topical blog because it will come up with more relevant ads based on the keywords you are using. I urge everyone to try Kontera as it may be useful in the future. The only problem with using all the contextual type systems is that only newbies will click on them because they don’t know you are getting paid for it.
But let’s not be greedy, if you see an ad on someone’s site about something interesting…click on it and help them out. It’s all about the good positive karma….isn’t it? Similar programs to Kontera include IntelliTXT and Vibrant Media.
As always I would love to hear your comments as I like to get new angles on these things, comment away!
