Internet Marketing: Selling Anything

Today I felt the need to explore some internet marketing techniques, I have learnt these techniques by having read various print media, watched various broadcasts and done some of my own thinking. So, how do you sell anything to someone. I explore the key points which are essential in product selling success.

Need: This is the simplest and most primitive form of the marketing model but it is highly important. If there is no need for the product, no one will buy it or even consider it. They just don’t need it and no one else does. So, make sure you enter a product range/niche that has a market, even a mass market.

Visual: Put a lot of images (correctly formatted and downsized) in your post. People love images and love to see the product from every angle possible. If it’s a book…get an excerpt or link to Amazon excerpts. Feed them with great images, not good, but great. These images you provide have to be of a very good quality and you must ensure that you have lots of close up shots.

Proof: Proof is very intuitive but it is highly important, let’s say you are selling a product as an Amazon.Com Associate, you have to give your readers PROOF! So, head over to the Amazon site, check what customers had to say and past the product reviews on your site, build the trust with the customer.

Emotion: If you can, and with most products you can, attach an emotional step during your marketing campaign. By this I mean, if you were selling a book about cleaning, you may say something like “Are you tired of spending your whole Saturday Cleaning and losing out with valuable family time? (Appeal to their sense of family and caring for their kids) Then get this great book about speed cleaning!”

Give them more reasons to buy the product: Don’t just say “Buy the product,” say something like, and if you buy today you will get a 20% discount, free shipping and delivery and the opportunity to win $250. It is these kinds of things which get people to buy things because they feel special as they are getting so many extras for no price.

Real life examples and accredited companies: Provide your readers with real life examples of how people’s lives have changed by having previously bought the product, tell them about the other companies who support this product. There is a high likelihood that you can find these kind of life examples. (Check out if the big name people out there use them, e.g. if OPRAH uses it, people like this association because OPRAH is a noteworthy figure in today’s modern society).

Tips for your PITCH: When you are pitching to someone, anyone, MAKE SURE that there are none of the following in your sales copy or your blog post. These are the big NO NO’s of any kind of sale or sales letter.

  • Do not have grammatical errors
  • Do not have spelling errors, use spellcheck
  • If you cannot write well, hire someone
  • Provide foolproof evidence
  • Do not put more than 2 affiliate links

Target Your Demographic: If you are targeting middle aged people, you should not be using terms like, this product is “off the chain” or “off the hizzy” and saying stuff like, you should buy it b’cos it rox. This will turn your demographic away if they do not understand or use this type of terminology frequently.

After you take all of these valuable tips into consideration you can start your pitch and begin selling your product I am sure you will see drastic changes, taking into account the fact that your blog has some decent traffic and the readers are not very well informed about affiliate marketing or making money online. The biggest mistake people do is trying to sell Amazon affiliate products in their make money online blogs.
