5 and a 1/2 Tips On Good Writing
I come across a lot of blog posts…as I would expect all bloggers to do. There are some posts which are better than others, of course. This is why today I am going deep within the core of what makes a good blog post. The first and most important thing is, what makes you want to read more of a blog post?
There could be numerous answers to the above question, but today I will check out 5 methods in which you can improve your posting ability. Should it be built like a newspaper article? Should it be conversational? Should it have a bit of everything? Let’s see…
ONE (1) – CHOOSE YOUR STYLE: When writing posts or articles for any type of content, the writer often has a style, they may be conversational and may try to appeal to your values or they may be informative and present you with a highly information based article. On the other hand they could give you an article with 99.9% waffle and 0.01% information. Choosing between these is not difficult, getting the right balance between conversational and informative is always a good way to go.
TWO (2) – WRITE IN A STRUCTURE FORMAT: There is no point writing an article if you do not have any sense of structure (the most basic form is introduction, body, conclusion). If your blog post does not have any structure whatsoever…people will not want to read it.
THREE (3) – USE GOOD TITLES (SUB HEADINGS IN THE POST ITSELF) : This is a really important one and I really need to stress the importance of it. Titles are so important for your readers, if you do not have titles (bolded or italicised) readers will be reluctant to pour through content, they want to pick out what they want to read…if you do not have titles, they cannot do that.
FOUR (4) – DENOTE IMPORTANT KEYWORDS: The key to writing a good post is to bold, highlight, italicise or underline keywords, this will help the readers understand what you want to emphasize and what you are talking about.
FIVE (5) – CREATE URGENCY AND/OR IMPORTANCE: This is one of the most critical points to think about when writing, the terminology you use will determine whether the reader is so happy about the post that they will actively do something like comment, stumble, digg etc… or if they are so bored that they just leave the site.
FIVE 1/2 (5. 1/2) – KEEP THEIR ATTENTION: Keeping reader attention can be difficult, but you can successfully do this by carrying out all of the above and ensuring that you stay on topic and keep all content interesting and focused. You do this by establishing a layout of the post, like in this one I used the 5 and 1/2 method, it is better and more exciting than saying 5 or 6. It will get people to read because it is quirky or weird.
Reader: If you like this post, please take the time to show some love by commenting, digg, stumble, bumpzee etc… Or subscribe to our RSS feed as we recently lost all of our readers because of a silly mistake. Thanks again!
Writing better posts is not difficult, it is only your perception of good blog posts that make it seem like hard work. So, take a positive step today, build a blog post, and make sure it is GREAT!

HI Fabien, love the five-n-a-half points. Valuable advice for any writer whether skilled or not. The blogging process appears to share a common thread in that all messages should be clear and concise (as opposed to sms and email).
So nice to see clear communication again and great to see the blogging community “shouting from the rooftops” the need for everyone to articulate their thoughts clearly and expressively.
I’m new to blogging and have only dipped-my-toe-in-the-water a few days ago.
It really was a surprise to find many blogs, such as yours, advising the need for all bloggers to communicate with clarity.
One can imagine this new trend becoming more valuable as time goes on. Lord knows that the young generation have not only lost the ability to spell, they have also lost the ability to communicate clearly.
Here’s hopin that we see a reversal of that trend.
Once again, nice work on the 5 1/2 points, PLUS, so much more to read on your more-than-thorough site.
Looking forward to reading more of your articles, on which I’m sure that I will regale you with more of my impassioned replies.
