Attack of the Ad Spots

The internet is filled with blogs, and with those blogs and other websites come trends…many trends. The most popular trend in the blogosphere at the moment is the 125 x 125 ad spot. The roots of this popular and highly useless form of advertising unless you are a popular blog are unknown.

Personally, I am getting sick and tired of seeing these kinds of ads plastered all over blogs in the blogosphere…that is why when I release my new design in February 2008…you will see very little of these ad spots, maybe only 2 or 4. I will slowly phase them out because I see very little use in having them unless you are a highly popular blog…and even then, these high profile blogs have trouble finding buyers.

Some blogs do very well with them, I will not argue, some blogs have them on a PPC basis from a third party ad serving company…so they do make a few bucks here and there. But there is one huge trend which is really getting on my nerves and it is the one and the only Ty Coughlin reverse funnel system.

Have you seen them? I am sure you have, 100% positive, they are everywhere, and they are highly irritating. Some blogs have up to 4 ad spots taken up by the same thing…the reverse funnel system banner. Why do they do this? Because they do not have anyone else willing to advertise on their site! Just remove them and spare your viewers the monotony…please.

I think that all websites who cannot attract advertisers to buy their ad spots should just quit while they are ahead, in the long run, these petty ad boxes will probably be phased out, and I suggest you do the same and provide more quality content links to your readers.
