The Benefits Of Brief, Succinct And Useful Blog Posts

cartoon You don’t have to write a novel to become a “good blogger”, so many people get so worried when they see content packed posts on other blogs that they feel they need to compete. But in actual fact you don’t! Writing a good blog post requires you to get to the point, that means no candy-coating or beating around the bush.

What Kind of Article Would You Rather Reader? Okay, here are two examples, you have one blog post that is about two pages long and it is about “Cleaning Your Blog For Maximum Focus” and then you have another post about the same topic with a blog post that has a list of 25 or so tips and the blog post is called “25 Tips For Maximizing Blog Efficiency”. I know which one I would pick. The one with the 25 tips…easy, short and to the point. The other article may be 2 pages long…but it may only cover two points that it summed up in 2 dot points of the 25 tips.

The whole point is, a good blog is not a long post. A good post must do the following things:

1. Provide The Reader With New Content

2. Make The Reader Feel Comfortable

3. The post must not overwhelm people

4. The post should use lists of numbers

5. The post should use lists of dot points

6. The post should vary font styles/sizes

The above are six simple tips that will help you write blog posts with ease and post better in general. The key to a successful blog post, is focused information. Think about it like this, you have about 30 seconds to impress a judge at a contest…they don’t have time to read your three page essay…they want a quick and informative to the point article. I use this because it is the truth, not all your visitors will wade through a 12 paragraph blog post…you have to give them three, and use lists to make life easier for them. Good luck for your next post!

Being brief really is the only way to sound ‘normal’ except when telling a story…if you’re too brief then the reader may not ‘get it’…

Although,I must admit that those lengthy content-packed posts has a certain intimidating factor to it.

The thing is, there are good articles which are genuinely long. But you also have your “wannabe” articles that have 60% fluff and only 40% content…it all depends on what you are trying to achieve and how you are trying to achieve it.

I guess what I was aiming at for this post is the fact that, to be a good blogger you can write small short articles daily but make them informative by using lists and different text styles.

This type of blogging is especially important for people like me who have to write a quick but useful and informative post. I have to do this because I am at school and it is not always easy to juggle posting and school work.

Thank you for your comments, they are much appreciated.

    Kind Regards,
    Fabien

hi. that was a nice post. actully u are about writing short blog posts.nobody has so much time to read long posts even if they are informative. A view of a long post is enough to divert some visitors or bloggers from ur post. u never know, when it gets boring for them.

I am not much of a fan of long blog posts, I try and keep it to a maximum of 6 paragraphs if I can. If I want to do a long blog post, I will probably chop it down into a five part series…easier for readers etc…

Thanks for your comments EnablingBiz, they are always appreciated.

    Many thanks,
