1. Writing for a purpose: When you write…why do you write? Are you writing for the sake of writing, or are you writing because you have something important, that you want to share with your audience? After all, discussing the events of your day if nothing interesting happened…is pretty much useless for the readers. As opposed to writing about your day and telling your readers about something important which occurred, this may be the fact that you discovered something about yourself, you found that doing something helps you focus etc…
2. Writing For The Sake of Writing: My point is, don’t write if you don’t have anything worthwhile to contribute. Do you talk to other people for the sake of talking? Maybe at a party you might do this, yes. But if you are a blogger, you don’t, unless you want to bore your audience, you should write about statistics, data and stuff about your niche that people will be interested to read. Yes, this goes out to all the personal diary bloggers as well - Don’t write about your day if you got up, went to work and came back home…that’s not interesting. Instead talk to us about your life experiences and tell us if you have learnt important lessons which have impacted upon you.
3. Writing succinctly to get all of your ideas across: Don’t write a blog post that is twenty paragraphs long when it could have been explained better in five paragraphs. This is one of the most ridiculous things that people in the blogosphere do…they write about something and make it huge, hoping to get to the front page of Digg or Reddit…get real, don’t make your post huge so it can get dug, write your post to make it informative to readers…and it will probably get dug more than the long one, I can almost guarantee this!
4. Writing About Topics That Make People Respond: Writing about your last trip to Kenya helping the underprivileged is better than complaining about the fact that you linked to John TP’s latest post and he didn’t take a visit to your blog or link back. People will probably be empathetic about you helping in Kenya as opposed to your post insulting John TP where you may risk insult and uninteresting comments.
