Analysis Of Today’s Typical Business Hierarchies

The Metaphorical Ladder Of Success: Now, I know a lot of you are probably wondering…Fabien, why are you talking about the ladder of success? We are in an entrepreneurial circle - we are our own bosses, right? Yes, you are your own bosses and that is exactly why I want to talk to you today about business hierarchies, it is a bit of a primer for you before you create your own company and start employing people. Employees need to be delegated and have special departments to work in, they all have specific fields of expertise. This article explores employees, the interview process and elements of workplace organizational behavior.

Finding Your Employees: When you first start your business, you’ll have to actively seek out employees, these will usually be people whom you believe are right for the job. What makes a good employee? Not everyone has the same point of view when it comes to good employees, many suggest that they should be able to cope with ongoing workload, others say the worker should be able to be proactive and positive in times when others would crumble under pressure. No matter what the definition, you have to interview your prospective employees, this involves analyzing the way they present themselves, their body language, their facial expressions and the ability to sell themselves or the lack of.

Interviewing Prospective Employees: Interviewing is considered to be an art by many, of course, anyone can ask questions, but picking the right questions to ask can prove difficult for some. The world of interviews has changed drastically over the past decade, nowadays it is literally a maze. You should strive to make your interview process different, instead of asking questions in a boardroom and looking professional and uptight, why not have a team building activity and see how the prospective employee does. It is these kinds of unconventional interview techniques which will set apart the good employees from the great ones.

Incentives for Hard Work and Commitment: If you see that an employee is dedicated and committed to their work, and they stay at the office till late to finish important tasks, they should be rewarded. By giving incentives for hard work and commitment you are promoting a higher sense of productivity for workers and giving them something to work for. Incentives could be anything from extra days in the holiday season, higher likelihood of promotion, increased pay packet etc…The opportunities are endless, when giving or planning for incentives, you should have a way of measuring the success of employees, either via the rate of task completion or something similar.

Promoting From Within: Promoting from within is a very good practice, especially when you think about how much time and money it would take to train a new person to do a job that someone in the company already knows quite a bit about. If you encourage promoting from within, it will spur workers or employees on to work harder, because they know that if they work hard enough - they stand the chance of being promoted, getting a bigger office and having a bigger pay packet…they might even get a nice view.

Giving Employees Titles And Merchandise: One of the things employees love most is being given a title they can be proud of. The titles that are out there nowadays are absolutely crazy, you get ones like, Senior Analyst Of Visual Communications which could simply be put as Advertising Proof Reader. People enjoy having their ego’s rubbed from time to time, so don’t give employees boring titles, give them something that sounds great and is meaningful at the same time, give them business cards and promotional merchandise, so they can do some free marketing for you and feel good about themselves.
