How Is Netvibes Increasing My Productivity Online?

Are You Using Netvibes? It’s Great!
Netvibes is a highly customizable page which allows you to aggregate content from virtually any site that has an RSS feed. Not only does it do that, it allows you to add multiple amounts of tabs and categorize content from blogs, news sites, web magazines etc…You also have the added option of using various simplistic and useful widgets. Since I have started using it, I have been able to keep track of other blogs with greater ease and find content that interests me the most.

Netvibes Is My Homepage, Is It Yours?
I use Netvibes as my homepage because it allows me to be more productive than having Google as my homepage. From the Netvibes ‘control centre’ as I like to call it, I can check the daily temperature (weather) in my local area for the next 4 days, I can search the web using Google, Yahoo, Ask and Live. I am also using a To-Do list widget which allows me to keep track of blog post ideas, general notes and important events etc…I am also using the email widget that allows me to check my Gmail account, it updates frequently because of the AJAX platform that Netvibes is built upon. Of course my homepage may change in the future, but Netvibes is performing very well at the moment.

Blog and News RSS Feeds, Are You Reading Enough Content?
Subscribing to the RSS feed of some blogs has never been easier, I am currently subscribed to quite a few blog feeds and news feeds. It is very easy to subscribe to news sites and feeds because most of the high quality blogs can be found in the feed directory and it is simple to add a feed if it does not exist in the directory. This makes it a lot easier to find articles and posts about topics that interest me the most.

PageFlakes, Eskobo and Protopage, Are They Better?
They don’t come close, statistics from Alexa and Compete show that Netvibes is in a huge lead, PageFlakes, Eskobo and Protopage cannot compare to the amount of people using Netvibes. Eskobo and Protopage lack the finesse and usability of Netvibes, not to mention the organizational edge that Netvibes has over the two. Pageflakes is very pleasing visually and it is the only real competition to Netvibes, it looks extremely similar to Netvibes but does not seem to be as customizable as Netvibes.

Productivity, Is It Really Being Increased?
Overall I definitely have to say that my productivity has increased as a result of it. It makes life so much easier for me. I have the liberty to check out the latest headlines and read the ones that interest me the most, I don’t need to have 20 tabs open at once to check out every single blog daily and I have the ease of checking my email from my front-page, and managing the tasks that need to be completed. Here is a more comprehensive three point analysis of how Netvibes has helped me.

1. Stopped Obsessively Checking Statistics

I have reduced the amount of times I check my statistics. Previously I was clicking on Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools everytime I entered the ‘My Account’ page on the Google homepage, now I no longer have the luxury of doing this because my homepage does not allow me to do so. I can focus more on writing content and analyzing other content to refine my own. Instead of tracking single visitors coming from peculiar places and marveling at the amount of visitors my blog has attained thus far…I can actually work on getting more.

2. Gained The Ability To Write More Focused Content

Ever since I started to use Netvibes, I have found myself thinking more clearly and therefore I have been able to write content that has a greater focus and centralizing theme around it. I have also found that my mind is a lot clearer and less cluttered, I can start focusing on other things in life as opposed to having my face stuck to a computer screen for 8 hours a day (exaggeration, but you get the point)

3. Allowed Me To Expand My Social Media Reach

Now that I am no longer spending huge amounts of time reading other blogs, I have more time to do various other things involving social media. I have found myself Digging, Stumbling and Saving more articles recently, this has subsequently given the site a bit more exposure and traffic over the past few weeks. I have found people I know on various social networking sites and I have added them. By doing this you are giving other people points of recollection so there is a higher likelihood they will return to your site.
