A 3 Point Plan For Writing Blog Posts That Flow

Inspiring You To Write WellThere are several types of blog posts, some of them are more successful than others. Writing a successful or a better blog post may seem easy at first glance, but it does require thought and planning before hand. For those who do not have the time to post in-depth material, simple list posts and reduced quantity posts work well, others prefer posts which have a lot of substance. The kind of posts that they can sink their teeth into for a good fifteen minutes or so. In this post I will explore 3 simple steps that can make your blog post more successful. I use the word ’successful’ to indicate posts that attain greater attention, comments, subscribers etc…

1. Structure: A Distinct Beginning, A Middle And An End (High School English Format)

A lot of the blog posts I write take on the simple beginning, middle and end model. I do include various other elements inside posts to ensure that readers get sufficient information and don’t get tired or bored easily (bullet-lists, block-quotes, images etc..) For a typical blog post, you may have an introductory paragraph, four body or content paragraphs and a concluding paragraph, with various media intertwined.

2. Writing: Format Paragraphs That Get Straight To The Point And Are Content Filled

Are you candy-coating your blog posts? Maybe you’re writing a little too much, a bit of waffle here and there. The best advice I can give you is to stop this habit. People nowadays like to see bold text, bulleted dot points and simple paragraphs. There is no time for novel writing or trying to write to be the next J.K Rowling, people want content, served up quickly and efficiently. Ensure that paragraphs get straight to the point and tap the core of the topic at hand.

3. Thinking: Encourage Contribution, Participation And Questions

A blog post is seen to be successful if it has a lot of interaction with it, this may be in the form of linking to it, comments and opinion posts by other bloggers. At the end of your posts, you should open up the post to varying opinions, comments, thoughts and questions. By doing this you are getting the reader thinking and making them want to share their own thoughts about the particular post at hand - because we have grown up with the understanding that a question requires an answer.

Final Words: There are obviously many, many different ways in which you could format a blog post. By no means am I saying this is the only way or the right way to write the perfect blog post. It is simply my interpretation of how to write a blog post that serves a purpose to an audience.

What do you think? What works best for you? Do you think that a blog post should be more opinionated? If so, why? What kinds of blog posts have worked best for you in the past. Share Your Experiences!

Great post. Lots of blog posts are very difficult to read which is a shame because the success of the blogging world is supported by the fact that everyone has a voice.

Just say what you mean and you’ll always mean what you say.

 DAVE: Thanks for the comment Dave, I certainly agree with you that some posts are difficult to read. There are a numerous variety of reasons why many blog posts are difficult to read, but I think misuse of the English language (grammar, syntax, vocabulary etc…) is the overarching factor. I always ensure that I post something I care about and value, it just makes things easier.

Useful post. All points are essential. I think that a clear paragraph writing is very important. Otherwise you will fail to transmit what you are wishing to.

Another thing to have in mind is the style. You should be careful on word choice, word order and sentence length. Always keep in mind the audience you are writing for.

As for letting the post open for comments, it is a very successful way to rise popularity.

 BANAGO: Paragraph structure is quintessential, this is one point that most people get right. There is however, an increasing amount of online blogs whose authors have not had a basic education in the English language; this shows in their lack of grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and syntax present in their posts. I think comments are a great way to communicate with the audience effectively and provide your own spin on things. Thanks for commenting Banago, you are always welcome

    Great blog design, Fabien.

Yes, all of your points are good. I employ them in my blogging and teach my writers to do the same. I’ve found that a little attitude and controversy go a long way. You can’t overdo it, but people like a little spark. My most popular blog posts have been ones where I took a stand on something and stated my case clearly. Going against conventional wisdom gets people’s attention and they respond with comments.

Allen: You make a very good point at “Going against conventional wisdom gets people’s attention and they respond with comments.” This is wise choice indeed.

 ALLEN: Certainly a little bit of controversy works, but you don’t want to tarnish your image on the internet, so perhaps trying to stay neutral whilst explaining your point would be a good idea. That having been said, I think it’s a great way to get people commenting about their own points of view and their opinions. Great comment!
