Affiliate Marketing Maverick Wayne Liew Interviewed
Wayne Liew leaped into the blogosphere in 2006, he currently makes thousands of dollars every month using affiliate marketing. I am delighted to have been able to get an exclusive interview with him. In the interview we discuss his journey in business and how get got into affiliate marketing. You can find him at www.WayneLiew.com, www.AffBoom.com and Twitter/WayneLiew I am pleased to introduce the man himself, Mr. Wayne Liew Yee Piao
Personal Blogging
Fabien: When you entered the blogosphere in 2006, did you enter with the mindset of generating an income online or was it more of a hobby?
Wayne Liew: When I got started at that time, my blog was purely personal. I provide my thoughts on some local news and only my friends and family who were visiting the blog.
Fabien: So, What motivated you to start checking out ways to actually earn an income online? Did you ask questions to gurus or read a few industry-related blogs?
Wayne Liew: At that time, I knew nothing about HTML, XML and stuffs in order to customize my Blogger blog. So I went to www.bloggerforum.com (no longer active I guess) to post some questions of mine. While I was there, I saw a section catering for monetization questions that other bloggers have so I started reading every thread posted. I was amazed at how people are actually making money off their blogs. The first guru that I really came across was Maki from Dosh Dosh. I didn’t email him a lot with questions but his blog posts are really good in providing ideas about blogging skills. And yes, I follow 200+ RSS feeds of blogs currently.
Saturation and Competition
Fabien: That’s definitely a lot of feeds to keep up with, I’m up to 80; and it does get addictive to click that subscribe button, Hehehe. On Twitter (http://twitter.com/WayneLiew) You post a lot about your affiliate marketing endeavours, what made you decide to change from ‘blogging’ to ‘affiliate and internet marketing’ as a stream of income? Are they more profitable or quicker than blogging?
Wayne Liew: To be honest, I got tired of the blogging about blogging industry, which was the niche I was in with Wayne Liew Dot Com. Blogging about blogging is like running around circles and things you say today might be rehashed tomorrow. When people think about blogging tips, there are only a few blogs that they will go to. ProBlogger by Darren Rowse, Daily Blog Tips and some other, not Wayne Liew Dot Com. The slow scaling of the niche is what prompted me to leave the niche and my blog altogether.
Fabien: I have to agree with you there Wayne, I don’t know how many times I’ve read the same type of post over and over again. Competition is high and profits are considerably lower than other niches.
Wayne Liew: Affiliate marketing is definitely easier than blogging for profits in my opinion. You don’t need to become an expert for a niche in order to squeeze money out of it.
Affiliate Marketing
Fabien: I think there are a lot of bloggers in the same situation as you were – they want to find a more profitable way to generate income online – but they do not know how, what advice can you give readers to get into affiliate marketing? Perhaps you could provide readers with some insight into some affiliate networks which you have found to be particularly effective in their functionality and profitability
Wayne Liew: Well, CPA marketing has been booming for the last few months and promoting them took my earnings into greater heights. Some of the great CPA networks to work with are Market Leverage, Hydra Network and NeverBlueAds. If you want to test the waters of affiliate marketing, you can either purchase Super Affiliate Handbook by Rosalind Gardner or follow the step by step tips for no cost affiliate marketing tips over at my affiliate marketing blog (http://www.affboom.com).
Fabien: I’ve been to your blog a couple of times Wayne and it definitely has some no-nonsense tips about affiliate marketing, so a second recommendation to go there and get tips for free! A lot of readers probably want to know how easy it is to set up a site and start generating some income from it, what is your time record for building a site and making money from it after. Weeks? Months?
Wayne Liew: Again, affiliate marketing is easy. If you are using WordPress as your platform for an affiliate site, you can literally generating income off your first blog post itself. For me, it will be days, right after Ezine-Articles got my articles approved. Of course, it depends on how hardworking you are in churning out articles (marketing), the niche you are in and the type of blog post that you put up.
Fabien: Definitely, that was going to be my next question, but you beat me to the punch, so hard work and dedication are obviously a very big part of it.
Wayne Liew: Yes. Some of the gurus or super affiliates out there are way hardworking than you see from the outside.
Outsourcing and Control
Fabien: Last few questions here – In 2008 outsourcing has been a big thing for many bloggers and online business owners, how effective do you think it is in terms of helping entrepreneurs to succeed quicker in business? – They like to make it seem easy those Super Affiliates!
Wayne Liew: Well, when bloggers and affiliate marketers start out. They are basically doing everything themselves and the truth is, you can’t achieve great success by doing them all by yourself. Successful corporations like Coca Cola and Toyota will not be able to enjoy their current success if they are just an one man organization. Outsourcing is not easy. You are losing control over certain tasks and the worry will definitely be there. I always give a trial period to people, especially those from countries like India so they won’t screw my mood for the day! LOL
Niche Profitability
Fabien: Hehehe, an interesting piece of advice there – very important and true. I know I may be going into dangerous territory here Wayne, but do you have any ‘broad’ advice to help point readers in the right direction with respect to profitable niches? Just a few hints and tips will do.
Wayne Liew: Haha. Yes, definitely. There are some evergreen niches on the Internet. Financial niches like payday loans, grants and debt relief always work out great. Forex and stock investing is another. Targeting shopping niches can be great during holiday seasons.
Business Success
Fabien: Fantastic Wayne, clear, concise and to the point. Thank you very much for your time, your advice and tips will definitely help people looking to get into affiliate marketing and online business. That pretty much wraps up our interview – Any last words of advice or encouragement you have to help readers in their path to business success?
Wayne Liew: Anyone can be successful. If you are not having success online, you may be the perfect material for top executive positions in big corporations or perhaps you may become the next maverick for offline businesses. Who knows?
Fabien: Definitely true, I’ve read some pretty amazing stories of people succeeding in the most difficult circumstances. Success is definitely possible. Thanks again for your time Wayne – we hope to have you back at SmallFishBigMoney.Com again in the near future. All the best in 2009 and beyond!
Wayne Liew: Thanks Fabien for the opportunity. Fabien: No problem, you are welcome back anytime.

Dina: I am a believer in affiliate marketing and I have seen it work wonders for others. Unfortunately I was unable to sign up as a MarketLeverage partner because I am only 16. I look forward to seeing ML flourish and grow even more in the future. Thank you for commenting.
David: Hey David! How’s it going man? Hopefully well. Thanks for taking the time to drop a few lines. Wayne definitely has some great tips and advice for new and advanced internet and affiliate marketers; and business in general. I highly recommend having a chat with him.
What my site does is a niche based approach to affiliate marketing. However, we dominate that niche and if you can find a niche that is interesting to you and you can find affiliate products behind it; you can make a living in something that looks like it doesn’t have that much potential.
This was a great post (like always)!
Mogs: Thanks for your comment, I have actually been looking into niche based affiliate marketing quite intensively lately. The main part, as you said, is finding something which I enjoy learning and talking about, which is the stage I am at the moment. I’ll get there soon! Thanks again.
I knew blogs made easy aff sales as well, but many don’t believe it! Oftentimes my blog posts are used as landing pages
As for CPA … you don’t even need to make a sale, it’s an action(like signing up,etc.) that pays…
